When I Was Five, All It Took Was Puff the Magic Dragon To Make My Day

"You can wreck anything with that kind of idiotic analysis."
- Peter Yarrow, about continued references to hidden meanings behind "Puff the Magic Dragon"

Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow's "Puff the Magic Dragon" is a song about smoking pot ... or the AC-47 Spooky from the Vietnam War ... or somebody's pet dragon ... or leaving childhood toys and friends behind on the path to adulthood.

All analysis and meanings aside, I soared on the days when I heard this song on Captain Kangaroo (yeah, I know that dates me).  My favorite line is "A dragon lives forever, but not so girls and boys." Oh how true.
